OUR EFFORTS

At helen b, it's not just about beautiful products. The brand is built on respect, sustainability, and social engagement. Discover more below!

Supporting the social economy

Helen worked twenty years in the social sector and knew from the start that Helen B had to grow socially responsible. That is why she works closely with the social workshop Mirto in Ghent.

When the demand for her porcelain became too large to provide all the illustrations herself, Mirto took over. They apply the drawings via ceramic transfers, fire the porcelain in five ceramic ovens, and take care of packaging and shipping. This way, every piece that goes to the customer carries a warm, human story.

Sustainability

We believe that a beautiful product must also be an honest product. Sustainability at helen b is not a trend, but a given.

Portugal: We work with local textile suppliers who share the same ethical values. Helen visits them regularly, exchanges ideas, and together looks for ways to improve quality and production.

Paper Collection: 100% printed in Belgium, 99% on cradle-to-cradle Munken paper from Sweden.

No More Plastic: We avoid plastic in our collection. Also in packaging, we choose a sustainable solution. Our greeting cards and posters come in compostable pouches made of cornstarch, and for shipments, we use paper bubble wrap.

No More Waste: No unnecessary gift packaging. Cups only get a reusable box if it remains functional afterwards, so that nothing ends up unnecessarily in the trash.

Second life: Cups with a small defect, the so-called misbakes, we do not throw away. Annually, we donate them to social organizations so they get a second life there.

Stock Management

Thanks to close collaboration with a local custom company, we can fully tailor our porcelain collections to demand. We produce in small batches, so that no surpluses arise. With our five ceramic kilns, we guarantee fast and flexible production, perfectly tailored to the needs of our customers.

We also work with small companies, allowing us to produce locally and in limited editions. For example, our kitchen towels are woven blank in Portugal and printed here on site with our illustrations. In this way, we always produce
tailored to demand.

The candle collection is also made with great care at Compagnie De Sporen in Ghent, where people with mental vulnerabilities find a safe place and daily activities. In this way, with each collection, we support the social economy.

Female Empowerment

Helen believes in the power of women, both locally and globally. She is ambassador of Plan International, godmother
of a Plan girl, and actively supports projects that advocate for equal rights for girls:

As a creative female entrepreneur in a often male business world, she wants to inspire and motivate other women. Together with her all-female team she conveys a positive message:

Power to all women!
